Eating Disorder: Anorexia
Anorexia Nervosa or simply anorexia is an eating disorder in which the patient has an intense fear of weight gain and they obsess about what they eat. People suffering from anorexia will limit their food and drink intake due to the fear of gaining weight.
Anorexic people often obsess over caloric intake on their food/drink and tend to punish themselves for consuming over their set limit (or consuming food that they consider is wrong).
In order to keep their caloric intake in check, anorexic people often depend on unusual habits (unhealthy means) such as vomiting, excessive exercise, using enemas, and taking laxatives.
Eating Disorder: Bulimia
Bulimia Nervosa or simply bulimia is a potentially life-threatening eating disorder in which the person suffering from it will binge eat and then purge to get rid of the caloric intake.
The binge and purging pattern/cycle can vary from patient to patient of bulimia. Since most of the bulimia sufferers don’t have noticeable weight-loss signs; it is possible that a person suffering from bulimia will go unnoticed.
People suffering from bulimia nervosa will experience health symptoms like bloating, constipation, abdominal pain, tiredness, and irregular menstrual cycles.
Eating Disorder: Binge Eating Disorder (BED)
In this disorder, a person would consume large quantities of food even if they are not hungry. People with binge eating disorders find this habit of food consumption out of control. They can either plan these binge episodes in advance or they could be spontaneous.
A person going through binge episodes might feel a sense of relief during the binge but as soon as they are done with it they experience distress, embarrassment, and shame for loss of control.
Binge eating disorder is different from bulimia as the sufferer doesn’t purge after eating in BED. Unlike bulimia sufferers, those with binge eating disorders will not purge after a binge.
